We were been looking for the right moment to hold a networking event in Christchurch as a way of engaging with our South Island members and reaching out to others with linkages with Japan who it would be good to bring on board. The stars aligned to do this with the opening of the new Five Star Mayfair Hotel who have invited us to hold our event at their premises in Christchurch.

Claire Waghorn, Sustainable Transition Leader, Christchurch Airport, was the guest speaker, and spoke about the innovative programme of action underway at Christchurch International Airport to address climate change and cut carbon emissions. Her presentation is available in the Members Section.

Deputy Mayor, Andrew Turner, also joined, and the Canterbury Employers' Chamber of Commerce promoted the event to their members.

The timing worked well also for Tsuguyoshi Hada, Director of the Japanese Consular Office in Christchurch who spoke about their move to new office premises in Christchurch.
