2010 Invitation Programme to Japan for Special Fields Counterparts from NZ (Agriculture) - July 2010
The Japan New Zealand Business Council is pleased to inform you of a unique opportunity to visit Japan, and invites you to consider potential nominations for this programme. The Japanese Government is inviting a delegation of 50 young New Zealanders involved in agriculture to visit Japan on a fully sponsored visit.

A summary of key eligibility criteria is shown below:
(a) Applicants should be a young New Zealander who are interested or specialize in agriculture,
-A person engaged in agriculture, forestry and fisheries including the processing, distribution and marketing of these sectors
-An academic, researcher or journalist
-Politician
-Government official
(b) Applicants should, in principle, be New Zealand citizens and at 35 years of age or below.

7 May Notification of Selection
5 July Pre-Orientation in Auckland
6 July Departure to Japan

28 Feb Japan Day - Auckland Showgrounds
The JNZBC will have a booth at the Japan Day on 28 February, to be held at the Auckland Showgrounds in Greenlane from 10am to 4pm.
  New Members to the JNZBC Executive
We are pleased to announce three new Executive members to the JNZBC NZ Committee.
Mark Crawford - Executive Committee Member
Mark is a Partner with KPMG based in Auckland. Mark has worked in various businesses in New Zealand, United States, United Kingdom and Japan over the past 20 years. His experience includes three years working in a Senior Finance role for a US public company based in Washington DC. Prior to returning to New Zealand in 2009, he spent eight years as a Partner working in Tokyo with KPMG, specialising in Audit and Advisory Services. In this capacity Mark worked with many multinational companies including General Electric, Fonterra and SAP and was a member of the Tokyo American Club.
Since returning to New Zealand Mark now heads up the Japanese Practice for KPMG. His clients include Konica Minolta, Shiseido, Makita and Mazda.

Andrew Hamilton - Executive Committee Member
Andrew Hamilton was the founding CEO of The ICEHOUSE in 2001. The ICEHOUSE is a business growth centre that creates learning environments for entrepreneurial firms to enable them to significantly grow their companies. Since 2001, The ICEHOUSE has worked with 75 start-ups and 2,500 established entrepreneurial firms. In 2009, Andrew’s contribution to the entrepreneurial market in New Zealand was recognised with the award of the Individual Contribution to SMEs at the Vero Business Excellence Awards and an emerging leader award for the Sir Peter Blake Trust. Prior to joining the ICEHOUSE, Andrew was CEO and Director of Inventure, Fletcher Building’s venture capital arm which he established in 1998 and before that he did a range of different things from lawyer, to Executive Assistant, Retailer of a Lawn Mower Business & Sales & Marketing Manager for Kiwi Icon Masport.

Chris Payne - Executive Committee Member
Chris Payne is a Business Development Manager in the Auckland office of leading New Zealand corporate law firm, Bell Gully. Prior to joining Bell Gully in early 2008, Chris was Development Executive at Tokyo-based film production company 100 Meter Films, during which he worked closely with the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) on an international feature film co-production development programme (J-Pitch). Since returning to New Zealand in 2007, Chris has been actively involved with the Japan New Zealand Business Council, Asia:NZ and the New Zealand Japan Society of Auckland, including serving on the latter’s council. Chris has MA and BA degrees in film and history from the University of Auckland and a long association with Japan commencing as a high school student.
12 Feb Future Business Counterparts programme
The Japanese Government will once again run the Future Business Counterparts Programme, which provides a unique opportunity for 50 young professionals from New Zealand to experience the business culture in Japan first hand. This is the third year that this programme will operate, and the JNZBC has again been invited to submit a number of nominations to the Embassy of Japan. JNZBC members are invited to nominate one person from their company/organisation. For application forms, please contact info@jnzbc.com. All nominations received by the JNZBC by 28 February will be considered by a sub-committee of the JNZBC, and a final list submitted to the Embassy of Japan on 5 March.

Denham Shale hands over JNZBC Chairman role
Chairman of the NZ side of the Japan New Zealand Business Council, Denham Shale, announced at the 30 November Executive Meeting that he is retiring from this position. He served seven years as Chairman, and has been a member for more than 20 years. His recent appointment to the Board of a major New Zealand group of companies required him to make more space for this new venture.
